With respects to "in public view", I think some people who claim to be offended may view public acts of affection between same sex partners such as kissing, hugging and fondling to be offensive because it does not fit their perception of how the world should act as dictated by their upbringing. In some respects, "some" of these same people find the same actions by opposite sex couples in public offensive as well. My father does not show much affection to his wife in public, but when he sees people kissing in public he often makes a comment, and on some rare occasions even calls them out on it. He was a "free love" hippy, so I just don't get it.
